How will artificial intelligence and machine learning drive your trading strategy?

Machine learning of one sort or another has been happening within the financial arena for some time. Today, investment managers and trading operations can use new approaches to data to gain an edge when making investment decisions. Newsweek’s AI and Data Science - Capital Markets conference brings together data science practitioners from asset management firms, hedge funds, banks and start-ups.

The event will look at new and interesting datasets and the process of extracting value from them. There will also be presentations and panels looking specifically at the infrastructure used by data scientists working in capital markets, including CTOs from hedge funds that have led the way in open sourcing software. The intersection of regulation and advancements in algorithmic trading techniques will also be discussed in detail, and more broadly the responsible approach to the way in which markets are becoming more and more the domain of machines.

On Wednesday, March 1st, Bloomberg LP's Head of Data Science, Gideon Mann, delivered a keynote entitled "Inferring natural language structure for insights into financial markets" and also participated in a panel discussion about "A new generation of financial text mining and automated interpretation."

The annual Women in Machine Learning Workshop is the flagship event of Women in Machine Learning. This technical workshop gives female faculty, research scientists, and graduate students in the machine learning community an opportunity to meet, network and exchange ideas, participate in career-focused panel discussions with senior women in industry and academia and learn from each other. The Thirtieth Annual Conference on Neural Information Processing Systems (NIPS) is a multi-track machine learning and computational neuroscience conference that includes invited talks, demonstrations, symposia and oral and poster presentations of refereed papers. This event brought together researchers and developers to create a set of evaluation resources showing how to use Lucene to perform typical IR operations (i.e. indexing, retrieval, etc.) as well as how to extend, modify and work with Lucene to extract typical statistics, implement typical retrieval models, and to evaluate various TREC tasks. Over the course of days, attendees participated in a hackathon to build these resources, share knowledge about the platform, and to create a road map for future development. The tools and resources built during the workshop/hackathon were uploaded to GitHub and shared with the community.

Node.js Weekend – London

Due to circumstances outside our control, this event has been postponed until an unspecified date in 2017. Thank you for your interest and please keep an eye on our @TechAtBloomberg Twitter feed for information about future events.Bloomberg is hosting a gathering of developers, students, and others from around the Node.js community to spend a weekend learning how to work on Node.js and other projects in the Node ecosystem. This event is intended to help new community members get started learning how to contribute, how to work on the code, and get their first patches written and submitted.

The event will be on Saturday and Sunday, October 1-2, 2016, in both London (UK) and New York City (US). Bloomberg is providing the space, food, beverages, travel/lodging for mentors, and the organization of the event, so attendees only need to bring their laptops (with power adapters!) and a willingness to learn and contribute. At both locations there will be experienced mentors on hand to provide guidance.Attendees at this event, and anyone who wants to chat with them, should use channel #bbgweekend on Freenode.

Here you will be directed to breakfast and to the ALT/TAB rooms where you can setup your laptop.

On both days, breakfast and lunch will be provided; on Saturday, dinner will also be provided. We’ll provide omnivore and vegetarian friendly options, but if you have other requirements, be prepared to make alternate arrangements for meals.
