Our West Coast Tech Hub: Open for Business

May 06, 2015

“I’ve always believed that talent attracts capital far more effectively than capital attracts talent – and that’s why I’m in San Francisco today to help Bloomberg LP, the tech company I founded 33 years ago, open a new R&D office for software developers.” – Mike Bloomberg, Founder, July 17, 2014

Last year our founder Mike Bloomberg announced we would be opening our first ever West Coast Technology Hub and today we celebrate the grand opening of this space.

Our Head of R&D San Francisco Zach Haehn and team member Eric Vander Weele have been operating in San Francisco for over a year creating our technology mission for the new office.  They have also been busy hiring local talent, and we now have had over six developers join.  The space will also house Roy Bahat and the Bloomberg Beta team, which provides great synergies and opportunities for both groups.

Having a technology presence in the Bay Area allows us to advance a number of important goals for the company. It helps us to engage more directly and consistently with the broad technology community.  We are already participating in major events, building strong relationships and convening key tech community leaders.

Our engagement in the technology community raises awareness of Bloomberg as an advanced, mature technology innovator. Every day we are solving some of the most complex technological and computing challenges on the planet.  Sharing our experiences  not only enables us to contribute back to the broader technology community , but also helps us learn more about the incredible new technologies coming out every day.  In short, we have a lot to offer, and we have a lot to learn.

It’s hard to capture in words the effort that has gone into the design and planning, as well as the collaboration to create our new West Coast Technology Hub at 140 New Montgomery Street, San Francisco.  Watch the following video to get the full story about how this new office came to be and what it means to Bloomberg.  Enjoy!
