Distinguished Speaker Series: Dr. Barbara Liskov

Turing Award recipient and MIT professor Barbara Liskov, one of the pioneers in the field of computer science, delivered two presentations to Bloomberg’s engineering team in NY as a Distinguished Speaker on Monday, October 24. The first was on how today’s abstraction mechanisms came to be and how they are supported in different programming languages; the second was about STO (software transactional objects), a new approach to implementing efficient concurrent programs running on multicore computers.

The video below captures some of the Abstraction talk and reactions from members of Bloomberg’s Engineering team to meeting and listening to Dr. Liskov.
